Safety switches with fewer contacts improve the price competitiveness of machine tools

Reduce the cost of parts that comply with safety standards and regulations
A mass production system implemented at a smartphone production factory has hundreds, or even thousands, of the same machine tools installed to be able to ship in large volumes in a short period right before a new product is released to the market. However, because a new smartphone is released approximately every year, if the existing machine tool cannot be used for the new product due to a model change then a new machine tool must be purchased.
To reduce the unit price of machine tools, smartphone manufacturers also ask machine tool manufacturers to reduce costs. Although many machine tool manufacturers try to review the parts they are using to curtail costs, there may be cases where alternative parts that comply with safety standards and regulations are not available, resulting in continued use of the high-cost parts.
High performance safety switches can reduce the total cost
In an example use case where three or more safety switches may be used for a single machine tool, if the product complies with ISO 14119 safety standards for machine tools and leads to a reduction in costs, switch replacement would be an advantage.
IDEC recommends the HS5L safety interlock switch (with a solenoid). Many manufacturers use safety switches with four or six contacts. The IDEC HS5L switch has markings for lock monitoring, and provides a high level of safety performance that satisfies safety category 3 with a minimum of two contacts. This powerful product will help you to further reduce costs.
