Standardize use of large indicator lights to improve visibility and reduce maintenance
Inconsistent use of indicator lights across equipment poses visibility and maintenance challenges
An industry example: a production engineer at a manufacturer of large automotive parts, overseeing production lines for doors, chassis, and other large components. The safety fences surrounding machines and robots with fitted with indicator lights, so that the status of each piece of equipment could be seen at a glance.
As the lights were installed in different ways, this inconsistency resulted in poor visibility. In addition, the types of lights used were inconsistent, requiring the company to maintain inventories of multiple spare parts. The use of incandescent lighting also meant the need for frequent maintenance and time-consuming bulb replacements.
IDEC offered a solution that would improve overall visibility across the production lines and resolve the company's maintenance issues.
Large, modular indicator lights aid visibility and streamline maintenance
We suggested the LH1D surface mount indicator light - specifically, the 'jumbo dome' model with a ø66mm diameter. The light, cable, and housing are integrated, and the indicator uses a bright, highly visible LED.
Standardizing the size and appearance of indicator lights across the production lines greatly improved equipment status visibility. The product design reduces the need for spare parts, and screw mounting simplifies installation
The customer in this case was pleased with the reduction in overall maintenance time, and made the LH1D the standard indicator in use at their facility.
