This month, discover how the XW1E-BV3SG unibody Emergency-Stop enabled a sleek, space-efficient design for a customer's remote control unit application with extremely limited panel depth.

The customer’s challenge:

A customer developing a remote-control unit for both indoor and outdoor use required a robust Emergency-Stop solution but faced significant spatial constraints inside their handheld enclosure. The limited panel depth available made it impossible to use standard Emergency-Stop switches, which typically require around 50 mm behind panel. They also sought a manufacturer that could offer an E-Stop with a minimum of IP65, to ensure the integrity of the enclosure's seal.

The customer’s requirements:

Our initial consultation focused on measuring the available cavity within the remote-control unit and reviewing the customer's layout. With the primary requirement of an E-Stop that could mount through a standard 22mm diameter panel hole but only required minimal depth behind the panel so it could fit within the slim enclosure. Most competitors on the market offer a 16mm solution, but very few have 22 mm version, and none that can deliver in as compact a space as the XW1E-BV3SG. Where others struggled, IDEC delivered.

The solution we provided:

The newly released IDEC XW1E-BV3SG offer proved the ideal solution. The key challenges were fulfilled. A rugged, 22mm E-Stop, with low behind-panel projection. Furthermore, as part of a focused range, this 22 mm unibody design has a Normally Closed (NC) & Normally Open (NO) contact options, an illuminated alternative, a color-changing actuator or even a low voltage option. All of these variations would have maintained the 22mm requirement, low panel projection as well as offering illumination and exceeded the IP requirement.

With its unibody construction and extremely low behind-panel depth, the IDEC XW1E-BV3SG provides a reliable 22 mm Emergency-Stop solution for compact control devices. It enables manufacturers to integrate certified safety functions without compromising enclosure size, sealing performance, or design flexibility.
