Sunnyvale - IDEC Corporation, global manufacturer of Industrial Automation products including switches, programmable logic controllers and sensors, announces the release of the OpenNet Controller PLC - an interchangeable PLC compatible with major industrial buses.

The ONC is compatible with three major industrial bus systems: DeviceNet™, LonWorks® and INTERBUS. This open network architecture gives users the control to design systems that are more powerful, cost less, and provide increased flexibility as network technologies change.

The OpenNet Controller is powerful and expandable. Building onto a CPU module or into an existing network, you choose the number and type of I/O which fit your system requirements. Adding control to your existing DeviceNet, INTERBUS or Echelon network is now a snap with the ONC.

An ONC processor can handle up to 480 digital I/O locally and up to 512 remote I/O using an INTERBUS remote I/O master card. A variety of digital I/O is available for 120VAC and 24VDC. Modules come in densities of 8, 16 and 32 points, and relay outputs with a current-carrying capacity of 2A per point are available. 6-channel analog input and 2-channel analog output modules are available with a variety of signals on the same module (0-10VDC, 1-5VDC, +/- 5VDC, +/- 10V DC and 4-20 mA).
The terminals on the modules are either Phoenix- style combicon connectors or high-density connectors.

IDEC's OpenNet Controller also offers superior communication and flexibility. The ONC CPU comes with a 10 kHz 2-phase high-speed counter with compare output. The ONC has three standard built-in communication ports - 2 RS232 ports and 1 RS485 port. The RS232 ports make connecting to any RS232C equipment a snap, and direct modem dial-up and pager applications are worry-free as well using the built-in Hayes "AT" command set.

The OpenNet Controller CPU has a capacity of 16 K words built in to the processor. An option for a Flash memory card is available for customers who desire to store and upgrade programs. In addition, up to 32 ONC PLC's can be connected through a 1:N computer link system. Uploading, downloading or monitoring data through a PC is an easy and efficient way to maximize your network.

A downloadable PID function with auto-tuning is available on the ONC CPU, and a very powerful instruction set that handles math functions, various data conversion and routing, as well as data transmit/receive.

Programming the ONC is made simple using IDEC's WindLDR® 3.0. This Windows-based programming software programs all IDEC PLC's and is compatible with Windows 3.1, 3.11, Windows 95, and Windows 98. A demo version of WindLDR 3.0 can be downloaded from IDEC's website at www.idec.com.
